This painting was shown as part of the White House
Christmas display during the Bush administration.
My dear friend,
Esther, who was a feisty octogenarian, posed for this
painting during a hot summer day. She not only had a
quilt on her lap, but she also had to tend to several
children crawling all over her. Although it was hot, she
told the children stories and they were transfixed.
Children loved Ester’s stories. I really wanted to show
how I feel about family bonds and the importance of
several generations coming together. |
